If you go into Netflix and search for 'Test', there is 4 'seasons' of audio/video tests. Just use season 1 episode 1, this will cycle through all your 5.1 speakers. Why is this important? Well because apparently after much dismay i found out YouTube on Xbox One doesn't support 5.1 surround. So any videos you watch on YouTube for 5.1 speaker test will lead you to believe your 5.1 is not working. I find it crazy Xbox One has no internal test to test all the speakers as the system has a horrible 'guess and check' setup for sound systems. Eventually after playing with many settings using the Netflix app i finally got all 5.1 speakers working, yay!

This functionality has been built in since XB1 released but it was tied to Kinect. You can select 'Kinect can't hear me', 'I've moved my Kinect.' In the kinect area in settings and it will do a test to check ambient sound level and adjust the mic accordingly, of which during this test it pumps out sound individually to each channel. That or most 5.1 systems have a built in test feature, my old Pioneer all in one home cinema even has it on the remote (especially any of those that can utilise a mic for config/setup of speaker distance and individual volume levels etc). Flexisign crack. There was a few mix of settings in the audio drop downs but oddly the real issue was in the system settings for video. Youtube video converter to mp3 and download. My TV was set to auto detect. I changed the auto detect to 'manual' then my screen went blank, came back on and was in 600x800 mode.

I then changed it to 1080 resolution manually, enabled all the Hz options (50 and 25 i believe?) and there might have been one other audio setting in those options i changed. I then was able to go into the audio settings and change the HDMI Optical audio options that were greyed out to me originally or would give an error out when changing them. So all this time i thought my 5.1 was working correctly but it wasn't.

The back speakers were giving some audio out all the time, but not the proper audio i found when using the Netflix test. Changing the options i listed here i was then able to test with Netflix audio test again and Boom, all speakers were working correctly. No matter what i had audio set to though.the kinect test ALWAYS only used the Right Front, Left Front, Center and sub speakers.never the back ones.same with the YouTube app. Hope this helps.it took me hours to figure out but man.it helped a lot.
